About Gabe
Hi! I'm Gabe, a CS major in the Class of 2024. I love MCU movies (especially Iron Man), NBA basketball, and moderately paced runs towards the sunset. I'm a proud Buffalonian (go Bills!), but like so many SEAS students, I've been waiting for what seems like an eternity to make NYC my new home. I'm running to be our next Health and Wellness Representative because I understand the need to prioritize our mental health as we build the next chapter of our lives together in this post-COVID era, so that every single member of our SEAS family can thrive.
Gabe's Vision
As your Student Health and Wellness Representative, my job is to REPRESENT YOU. Together, we will accomplish this in three steps:
-
I promise to LISTEN to all of our concerns regarding mental health and wellness. During this past year, I know that many of us have just wanted somebody to talk to, to listen to us, to make us feel like our concerns were being heard. And even as the pandemic reaches its end, the need to be heard remains. As a new semester starts, we'll all face new challenges, whether that's navigating campus for the first time, hunting for an internship, or kindling the flames of love. You deserve to be heard through all of your challenges, and that's why I'm here for you. Whether it's through in-person town halls, Zoom meetings, or Instagram DMs, you can count on me.
-
I promise to ADVOCATE for the mental health interests of our SEAS community. Together, we will build awareness among not just the student body, but faculty, staff, and administrators; so that when we face challenges, we will be confident in seeking help. We will work with the school to build strong health and wellness infrastructure and policies that will support us in our times of need. Specific policies I support include: a permanent extension of this semester's P/D/F policy; reading week for midterm exams.
-
I promise to COLLABORATE with faculty, staff, and students in achieving these goals, because we are not just a collection of individuals — we are a community. We will collaborate with Columbia Counseling and Psychological Services. We will collaborate with the Office of University Life. And we will especially make sure to collaborate with the faculty, because they are an integral part of how Columbia Engineering serves its students every single day. The only way to build a fair, equitable mental health environment at Columbia Engineering is together.
Thank you, and I'm so excited for us to thrive together.
